315: The REAL “Secret” to Consistent Clients (and Income) as a Freelancer
Ever feel like you're stuck on a rollercoaster of feast or famine with freelance work? You land a big project, then... crickets.
We've spoken to over 800 freelancers 1 on 1 this past year, and nearly EVERY one of those freelancers was in the same boat... lack of consistency, and lack of any real plan.
In this week's episode of the 6 Figure Creative Podcast, I'm hitting you with some tough love to break that cycle and give you the real "secret" to consistent clients and income. (Hint: It's not a magic trick.)
The secret to earning consistent income and landing premium clients isn’t what you think. It won’t be found in sporadic social media posts or half-baked marketing efforts. It’s about changing who you are.
This episode is for YOU if:
You're tired of the inconsistent income struggle.
You're ready to take your freelancing seriously and build a real business.
You're open to ditching the "dream client" fantasy and attract clients who are a perfect fit.
Ready to finally ditch the feast or famine cycle?

For two grueling years in my early 20s, I poured my heart into a day job at Gamestop, never missing a day and always showing up on time. Despite the love from regulars and kudos from my boss, my financial reward after all that hustle? A laughable jump from $5.15/hr to $5.50/hr. That's right, a whole $0.35/hr raise after two years. Fascinating episode! I'd love to know your thoughts on branching out once you've established yourself in a niche. At what point do you go from '6 Figure Home Studio' to ' 6 Figure Creative' and start adding on extra services?

    • @6FigureCreative
      @6FigureCreative 2 місяці тому

      Hey Holly! I don't believe there's a blanket answer for this, as it is different for everyone. Part of it is when you've had CLEAR success in a smaller niche, and you feel like you've hit some sort of growth ceiling in your industry. In cases like this, you can either... - "niche out" - offering the same thing to a broader-but-still-niche audience (going from "websites for realtors" and expanding out to "websites for the real estate industry). Or you can... - "niche stack" - Offering the same thing to a one additional specific niche (i.e. specializing in "websites for realtors", then "stacking on" the "websites for mortgage brokers" niche into your niche stack). Or you can... -Service Stack - offering a new service to the same niche (i.e. you offer "websites for realtors", then sell your existing clients "logos for realtors", which i realize they don't usually have logos, but you get the idea). Lots of nuance in here, but I hope it's helpful!

    Just so you know, the bank you refer people to has similar issues with transferring money. I created a business account with them (based on your recc) and just discovered they take 6 business days to deposit a mobile check and 3 days to transfer money to external (personal) accounts. That's in addition to the wait time imposed by any personal accounts you or your listeners may have. I am thinking it was a better idea to just have both accounts in the same bank.

    • @cort9692
      @cort9692 4 місяці тому

      Also -- Novo is not a bank, they're a fintech company (it's in the fine print). The actual bank is Middlesex Federal. Your listeners should know that before they sign up. And a disclaimer that you also get a referral bonus would be in good taste (if you do; the sign-on bonus suggests such an arrangement).

    • @6FigureCreative
      @6FigureCreative 4 місяці тому

      Hey there! I'm sorry to hear you had these issues. Are you sure this happens every time, or was it just the first time? My transfers happen within 1-2 business days. I've been using Novo for quite a while now, and it's been nothing short of amazing. Also, I did disclose that it was a referral link at 7:30 of this video: go.6figurecreative.com/bank

    • @cort9692
      @cort9692 4 місяці тому

      @@6FigureCreative every time. Paying myself takes several days. Clients paying me by check takes at least a week (granted it’s not many that pay by check but that wait time is nuts; my personal bank deposits all of it or a large percentage instantly while the rest clears). I asked if this was temporary and it’s not. They will however offer to transfer faster … for a fee. Paying for your own money is a dealbreaker for me too. They also don’t support Zelle, their customer support isn’t great (help tickets), their invoice system is also weak. Add all that to the list and it’s more headache than it’s worth. I am having trouble figuring out what is special about it other than “reserves” but you can get that at any bank. Maybe it works better if you have a larger studio with more employees. Maybe it’s better if your account isn’t new. I don’t know why it’s different. I’m sincerely glad it’s working for you. I offered my experience so your listeners can know the full range and make their own call with all the info. I think the podcast has a lot of good advice but this specific recc fell very short for me. It’s also worth restating that Novo isn’t a bank, it’s a fintech company that is a service provider for Middlesex Federal. It’s in the fine print. That might explain the lag. I dunno. For me personally it’s not worth all that. I’ll just try a credit union that does linked business and personal accounts. 🤷‍♀️ I do hope this helps.
